About Carrie

Who is Carrie?

Carrie is an occupational therapy doctoral student at the University of Central Arkansas. Carrie is passionate about helping people improve their occupational performance and participation and feel restored. When she's not busy as a full-time student, Carrie enjoys the occupations of baking, crafting, and socializing with her friends.

What is OT Restore?

OT Restore was created as part of Carrie's capstone experience. Carrie loves educating others about occupational therapy and advocating for increased awareness of the numerous ways occupational therapists can help people. After desiring to create a platform to educate and advocate, a mentor suggested Carrie create a website. Thus, OT Restore was born.

Special Thanks!

Carrie would like to give a special thanks to her capstone mentors and many other mentors and supporters for making this website and its content possible. Thank you!

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy is a healthcare profession that helps people with their occupations, that is the things that occupy their time.  Anything that someone wants to do, needs to do, and is expected to do to live a more meaningful life is considered an occupation, and occupational therapists can help with it. Occupational therapists consider the whole person when working with people - their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual selves. They also can help people across the lifespan, from birth to death, engage in meaningful activities. Want to learn more? Click on the link below and enter the "What is occupational therapy?" course.

Original Research: OT's Role in Anti-Human Trafficking

This research completed on current anti-trafficking programs, knowledge of occupational therapy, and perceptions of occupational therapists working within anti-trafficking organizations suggested that many organizations offer programming that could improve daily living such as life skills and job training but lack a focus on meaningful occupational performance and participation. 31 participants, from non-profit organizations working with victims and survivors of human trafficking across the United States, completed a survey, and six volunteered and participated in an interview to further discuss their organization and occupational therapy. The general perception was that occupational therapists could benefit current anti-trafficking organizations and survivors of human trafficking by offering a perspective that brings deeper meaning and purpose to someone’s life after trafficking.
